First Tee Post Secondary/Scholarship Program
(Available ONLY to Current FTCC Participants)
As noted on the first page of our website, the mission of First Tee – Coastal Carolinas (FTCC) is to impact, influence, and inspire the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf and other enduring character-building activities. All of our golf and youth-development programs focus on First Tee Nine Core Values™ – Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Responsibility, Courtesy, Confidence, Judgment and Perseverance – using golf and golf etiquette as the context. In addition to encouraging our young participants to have fun with a sport in which they can participate for many years, our efforts are designed to help prepare them to become productive and responsible citizens.
We fully understand that many of our young people will be appropriately interested in continuing their educations beyond high school and we want to help. As higher education enrollment becomes more expensive, paying for college or post-secondary educational training is becoming more and more difficult for families to manage. As a result, access to scholarships is becoming increasingly important. Each year First Tee – Coastal Carolinas is pleased to award scholarship funds to high school seniors from the FTCC operating area (Horry and Georgetown counties in SC and Brunswick, Carteret, Craven, Columbus, Onslow and Pamlico counties in NC), who have participated over time in First Tee activities and programs, demonstrate financial need, have succeeded academically in high school and have demonstrated their adherence to the Nine Core Values. Importantly these scholarships are renewable on a fund available basis.
The Harrison Taylor Post – Secondary Scholarship
We are pleased to have named our general need-based scholarships in honor of Harrison Taylor; a long time First Tee participant killed in a tragic accident. Moreover, we are also pleased to have the two named scholarships listed below.
The Lin Bradley Scholarship
Mr. Bradley is a long-time First Tee coach and Board Member who stepped down from active participation following two terms as Chairman of the Board. He continues as a special advisor to First Tee – Coastal Carolinas. This scholarship was created to honor his role as a mentor and leader in the First Tee Community.
The Jacob B. Elliott Scholarship
Jacob Elliott initially came to Myrtle Beach in January 2009. In February 2019, Jacob tragically lost his life in a house fire and is missed every day. This scholarship will enable Jacob’s strong work ethic, goodwill, and love to live on – within Coastal Carolinas and for its people that he loved and cared so much about. It is the family’s pleasure to have designated this scholarship to support local First Tee Coastal Carolinas youth.
The First Tee – Coastal Carolinas is also pleased to note that its Scholarship Committee members have expertise in and experience in helping families develop paying for college plans and are happy to provide this advice and counsel to our students’ parents free of charge.
