Why Golf?

Experiences are our greatest teacher. First Tee believes in developing the ones that are just as fun as they are meaningful, where kids feel excited to grow, safe to fail, and better equipped for whatever comes their way next. Through our personal growth and junior golf programs, we see kids’ build self confidence, inspiring more active participation in leadership opportunities and events, community involvement, and college scholarships.

On the Golf Course

Junior golf is just part of First Tee. Through our program that strengthens character, kids will learn life skills that stay with them into the rest of their lives, like:

  • Understanding and managing emotions
  • Resolving conflicts
  • Setting up step-by-step goals
  • Planning for the future
  • Appreciating diversity

Advancing through the Program

First Tee – Coastal Carolinas as well as all First Tee chapters across the United States and overseas will be transitioning into an Age-Based programming model.

First Tee is modernizing and transforming to better meet the needs of kids, teens, and families. To determine the best way to do this, First Tee National gathered feedback from network leaders and chapters as well as experts in youth development and technology.

Through this research and listening, the need to move to age-based programs became clear. We are adjusting to match the way nearly all other youth sports and programs are arranged. More importantly, we will meet the preference of kids and their parents to keep participants in groups of similar age.

Participants will now register for programs depending on which age range they fall into beginning this Spring, rather than the previous “level based” programs you are used to (PLAYer, Par, Birdie, Eagle). In the upcoming Fall and 2023 season, participants will see a change in the curriculum as well as an app which will include the First Tee workbook and new fun and engaging ways for participants to track their progress. The new levels will look as follows:

5-6 years old (Little Linksters), 7-9 years old, 10-11 years old, 12-13 years old, 14 years and up (ACE).
